On their third release, Zwischen den Zügen, the accordion–and–dulcimer duo Susanna Dill & Gilbert Paeffgen moves with ease between the pinpoint detail of modern classical composition, Celtic and folkloric melodies, musette and tango, and into free improvisation. The result is a sensual invitation to travel—through inner films, thoughts and shifting realities. The title, “Between the Trains,” conjures images of comings and goings, joy and sorrow, and the moment of indecision on the platform: which train to take? A longing metaphor for arrival, non-arrival, and all the shades in between.
