Suzhou / It’s All The Rage (feat. Blixa Bargeld & Black Cracker)
- by KiKu
Suzhou / It’s All The Rage is conceived as a diptych: two distinct bodies of work held together by a shared musical architecture. On one side, Blixa Bargeld moves through language with precision, restraint and abrasion. On the other, Black Cracker turns language into rhythm, pressure and momentum. Between them, KiKu constructs a dense, unstable framework of trumpet, drums, sampler and electronics. The album does not seek seamlessness. Its two halves retain their own character. Suzhou is shaped by space, tension and control. Bargeld’s voice shifts between speech, song, whisper and abstract vocal gesture, never simply resting above the music. It is embedded within it: cut into the structure, stretched across silence and set against processed trumpet, fractured rhythms and electronic residue. It’s All The Rage moves differently. Black Cracker’s voice is more percussive, volatile and immediate. Rap, spoken word and fragmented imagery are driven into restless grooves and unstable electronic forms. Language becomes both narrative and impact: entering the beat, resisting it and propelling it forward. What unites the two parts is not similarity, but method. Yannick Barman’s compositions create a space in which acoustic sound and digital processing continually reshape one another. Cyril Regamey’s drums and sampler do not merely support the music; they define its weight, velocity and internal logic. The result is neither a conventional song cycle nor a straightforward collaboration album. Suzhou / It’s All The Rage is a split structure sustained by friction: two voices, two poetic systems and one shared sonic architecture. The digital release and CD present the work as a continuous eight-track album. On vinyl, its dual structure becomes physical: Side A contains Suzhou by KiKu feat. Blixa Bargeld, while Side B contains It’s All The Rage by KiKu feat. Black Cracker.
