On their third release, Zwischen den Zügen, the accordion–dulcimer duo Susanna Dill & Gilbert Paeffgen moves with ease between the pinpoint detail of modern classical writing, Celtic and folkloric melodies, musette and tango, and into free improvisation. The result is a sensual invitation to travel—through inner films, thoughts and shifting realities. The title, “Between the Trains,” conjures comings and goings, joy and sorrow, and the moment of indecision on the platform: which train to take? A longing metaphor for arrival, non-arrival, and all the shades in between.
