Balduin (born December 1978, Bern, Switzerland) is a Swiss composer and producer known for cinematic, genre-blurring work. He wrote his first song at the age of eight, formed his first band—Fades—as a teenager, and learned the Swiss hammered dulcimer (Hackbrett) before taking up guitar. In 2001 he signed to the Berlin imprint Crippled Dick Hot Wax! and released his international debut album, Creative Cookery. Balduin’s sound is hard to pin down: reviewers have described it as “high-quality, laid-back electronica with jazz flavors,” a meticulous blend of film music, psychedelic touches and mellotron hues—equally at home in jazz, drum’n’bass, electro and downtempo contexts. The constant is craft: carefully layered arrangements, warm textures and a tasteful, unhurried sense of groove.
