Babalon Anon is a UK MC and spoken-word poet from Essex. He serves up a singular mix of cheeky sarcasm and surreal humour, weaving references to mythology, classical and occult literature, conspiracy theory and pop culture into tales of excess, substance misuse and psychedelic paranoia. His rapid rhymes and precise lyrical flow sit in deliberate contrast to his performance-poetry delivery — a style sometimes described as “diction adagio” — offering sharp observations on the pain and beauty of human interaction. Babalon Anon provides a refreshing, accessible antidote to the macho posturing and commodity worship that dominate much modern rap. Whether listeners come for dense lyrical content or for a wild night out, his work satisfies both. Rather than rhyming over pre-cut instrumentals, he works closely in the studio with Swiss deep-house producer Patrick Podage (formerly of the drum-and-bass collective Silent Extent). The two met while collaborating on the soundtrack for the multimedia production Daimonion (Heartcore Collective) and discovered a shared love of eclectic sounds. For the project On the Other Side of the Mirror they compose together from the ground up: Babalon Anon shapes the pace, vibe and occasional sample suggestions while Podage builds and refines musical arrangements in real time. After the vocals are laid down, Podage returns to add playful embellishments and musical in-jokes, creating a singular fusion of sound and wordplay. They take their craft seriously but never themselves — a collaborative partnership that is as rigorous as it is playful.
