- Electronic/
- Instrumental
Daniel Whiler — aka Alphatronic — was born in Bern, Switzerland. At fifteen he held a Korg MS-20 synthesizer for the first time, and from that moment his heart belonged to electronic sound. Becoming a sound engineer was the logical next step. Alphatronic’s music is rooted in ambient electro. He programs all his sounds himself and is constantly searching for new rhythmic structures that give those sounds a wide, open playground. He is not a fast-food producer but rather an old-school sound-searcher: commercial success interests him not in the least; what matters is the continuous refinement of his distinctive sonic language. This development is audible across his releases (1998: Alpha; 1999: Morphin Metal Bar; 1999: Solitary; 2000: EP 2000; 2003: Duke; 2009: Sonic Landscapes; 2011: Cybersyn) and in his live performances. Since the 1980s Alphatronic has worked with influential figures such as Marco Repetto, Bruno Spoerri, Daniel Kueffer, Tom Vedvik, Martin Tillman, Waedi Gysi and DJ Ramax, and with performance artists like COCO, André Stitt and Edy Marconi. Ultimately, Alphatronic is one of those rare electronic musicians who quietly develops a personal language over the years. He tends to work in the background, yet he always remembers to share the pieces he discovers with his audience.
