Nine artists reimagine Mathon’s alpine soundscapes—field-recorded in the Swiss mountains and first released as Via Mala—into a widescreen set of ambient, drone, and minimal electronics. The trail that lends the project its name is a dramatic gorge in Graubünden; the music keeps that sense of carved stone and rushing depth while opening new vistas through reinterpretation. Across 49 minutes, Mathias Grassow & Tomas Weiss, Emanuele Errante, Benfay, Fernando Lagreca, Pe Lang, Alexandre Navarro, Gunter Adler, Jap Jap, and Strotter Inst. each uncover a different facet— from cavernous drones to dub-tinged pulse—without losing the original’s quiet, elemental pull. First released in 2009 on Everestrecords, it’s a companion piece that stands on its own.
