The Meaning of Life
- by A.Spell
A.Spell sharpen their sound with bold intent. The new recording threads tales of queens, emperors, grey moons and shadowed places—shot through with golden glimmers of hope—into rhythmic, architected compositions where soundscapes meet percussive texture. Unfamiliar instrument Pairings are the point: distorted bass and contrabass clarinet, tabla, hybrid drum kit, didgeridoo and playful electronics, all braided by the warmth of accordion, under a voice that lifts above it all. The trio — Nadja Stoller (voice, accordion), Jan Galega Brönnimann (bass/contrabass clarinet, electronics), and Ronan Skillen (percussion, tabla, didgeridoo; Cape Town, South Africa) — fit together with effortless complementarity.
