Recorded in March 2006 at 1,500 meters in the Swiss village of Mathon, Muntsulej captures the hush and scale of a winter alpine landscape. Since 2003, Pete “Aurel” Leuenberger has invited changing constellations of musicians to this silent place; here he’s joined by Thomas Augustiny, Markus Koller, and Roger Stucki. The result is an electro-acoustic soundscape of patient drift and fine detail—tones and textures that mirror snowlight, distance, and the stark relief of rock and air. Muntsulej returns the mountains’ immensity in measured waves: spare, resonant, and quietly absorbing.
