On their debut album Hypernormal, PLESS situate each track in a fictional place that gives the music its defining environment—its physical and atmospheric contours. Philipp Thöni tends to externalise these locales, while Leo Matkovic gravitates toward interior spaces. The titles amplify or counterpoint these settings, and in sequence the listener travels across varying distances to different sites—all part of the same celestial body. As Hypernormal unfolds, images rise before the mind’s eye: sombre, cinematic moods pierced by ecstatic flashes of lightness. It is an observation of worldly things, perceived through a newly tilted dimension.
