Since 2014 the orchestra has performed exclusively on Korg Volca units, creating fully improvised electronic music. The compact machines are linked via sync cables so their clocks run in step, but nothing else is fixed: there is no repertoire—each piece is invented anew, with no prefabricated material. Their 45-minute music film Energiezentrale, produced by Yannick Mosimann, is the ensemble’s latest project. The orchestra’s sound—somewhere between ambient and techno—melds with the location’s futuristic architecture to form an energy-charged whole.
