This double album adopts a clear split concept. The first LP is a musical reckoning with the present: OP Rechts scores a bleak portrait of today’s world—an unsparing critique of ruling political systems and their actors, pursuing self-interest while trampling human rights and democratic values. The second LP processes nearly twenty years of the musician’s illness—strokes, cancer, isolation, anxiety, diabetes, medication, rehabilitation, and the hard road back to everyday life. With this work, Mike Reber aka OP Rechts leads listeners through a tradition of musique concrète and avant-garde composition, marked by a deliberate radicalism against prevailing aesthetic norms. Using exclusively analogue sound sources and field recordings—alongside contributions from Bern-based musicians Bassdriver and BlindDoc—he shapes a haunting composition about the repressed, the strange and the uncanny: powerful, unsettling, and fiercely alive. A “soundtrack” that points to the planet’s poisoned condition and ignites a different kind of cinema in the mind.
