Simon Berz

Simon Berz builds his work from four foundations: material, its sound, the movement it provokes, and the images that emerge. His practice spans visual art, sound research, composition, installation, and transdisciplinary music–dance performances—sometimes involving up to sixty participants across generations, professions, genders and cultures. For many years he has explored how electronics can extend percussive expression on the drum set. Along the way he has worked with or intersected the worlds of Apparat, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Nils Petter Molvær, Kidd Jordan, Jimmy Tenor, James Turrell, Toshinori Kondo and Jojo Mayer. Berz is active in Switzerland, Berlin, Indonesia and New Orleans.
