Mich Gerber

Mich Gerber is an eclectic, innovative double bassist who has helped define a new musical language for the instrument—playing it as a lead voice and an all-in-one ensemble. Classically trained yet drawn to the avant-garde, he dissolves boundaries between jazz, classical and folk traditions, between Orient and Occident, early music and electronica. A pioneer of live looping, he layers plucked and bowed lines with percussive body work to weave rich, rhythmic and melodic tapestries. His original approach—overtone-driven, rhythmically incisive, unafraid of noise textures—reimagines the double bass as a vehicle for both lyricism and pulse.
