World News
Music seems to pour continuously from Swedish composer Peter Hansen. Not a strict miniaturist or minimalist, he nonetheless lets part of that stream settle into short pieces—diary-like entries—of which he has written hundreds. In Hansen’s words, this is music “dressed in jeans,” never meant for tails or tuxedo: the composer steps back; the sound almost melts into the room while subtly shaping it. The World News series began in 1991. Each piece functions like the ident of an imaginary radio station—a signature tune that can be replayed again and again. The concept sprang from an old World TV Radio Handbook, which printed station data alongside their theme music. The numbering, fittingly, shouldn’t be taken too seriously; the flow matters more than the count. Liner notes by Bjørn Nilsson.
