Hey, what’s wrong baby!

Written between Christmas 2009 and Easter 2010 in a solitary house in Wilen/Sarnen (Switzerland), Hey, What’s Wrong Baby! turns the space itself into an instrument. Benfay built the tracks from samples of objects found in and around the house and from old records discovered in a cupboard, shaping first beats and moods on an MPC and a small modular synth. Many pieces take their names from the sampled sources—or nod to John Carpenter’s They Live, which also inspired the album title. Here Benfay folds his influences into a singular language: classical motifs threaded through electronic architectures, tactile sampling meeting meticulous sound design. It slips past genre labels—rich, idiosyncratic, and unmistakably his own.
